First Responder Program
First responders offered training on alternative fuel vehicles
In 2014 Police officers, firefighters and others were offered two opportunities to attend full-day workshops to learn how to safely respond to accidents involving cars or trucks that run on natural gas, propane autogas and electricity.
The workshops took place at Lawson State Community College in Bessemer and Aug. 20 at Trenholm State Technical College in Montgomery.
The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition facilitated the workshops in partnership with the National Alternative Fuel Training Consortium and the Center for Transportation and the Environment.
The hands-on safety training is available not only to fire and police officials but also to towing services, emergency medical technicians, ambulance companies and others who might be called to accident scenes involving alternative fuel vehicles.
The certified trainers committed to going back to their departments/organizations and training their personnel.
