March 09, 2017

The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition is joining Lawson State Community College to sponsor the National Alternative Fuel Training Consortium’s National Odyssey Day.

National Odyssey Day is a nationwide biennial event to educate the public about alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles as well as the important role these vehicles play in providing solutions to our nation’s energy security and environmental issues.

As part of National Odyssey Day, there will be an in-depth discussion of the VW Mitigation Trust Fund settlement and what effect Alabama’s $16 million share may have on the s

More than 125 sites across the nation will join together on April 20 to further this cause. Lawson State, as a member of the National Alternative Fuel Training Consortium, is a great place to celebrate National Odyssey Day!

Alabama Prisons Adopt Propane, Establish Fuel Savings for Years to Come

September 30, 2016

Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC)

Sept. 14, 2016

“Propane is a cleaner, inexpensive fuel that allows the Alabama Department of Corrections to reduce its dependence on imported oil. Additionally, the state's work release center staff and inmates like the convenience of having the propane fueling stations onsite, which reduces the amount of time that would be required to fuel the vehicles at commercial gas stations.”

Question of the Month: What are the Current and Future Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Fuel Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards

September 29, 2016

Question: What are the current and future medium and heavy-duty vehicle standards? We have the answer!

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (collectively, HDVs) are expected to surpass light-duty vehicle (LDV) emissions by 2030. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 directed the U.S. Department of Transportation to establish fuel efficiency standards for HDVs.

Standards address second largest segment of U.S. transportation
in terms of emissions and energy use

WASHINGTON – Today the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) jointly finalized standards for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles that will improve fuel efficiency and cut carbon pollution, while bolstering energy security and spurring manufacturing innovation. The final phase two standards were called for by President Obama's Climate Action Plan, and respond to the President's directive in early 2014 to develop new standards that run into the next decade.
